Stay Connected

New Year, New ideas. The Miami Dade Public Transportation System has been working on a new project that will change the Metrorail forever. The new Airport Link from the Earlington Heights Station to Miami Intermodal Center is currently underway. It will bring a better way of moving around across the city without having the hassle of driving there.

Edward Diaz, train operator, seems optimistic about this new project. “It is great for Miami. Miami is growing and it needs a system to keep them moving around,” Diaz said. Working in public transportation for 20 years, he finally sees to envision the airport link as its getting built.

“It is massive, very big. The station looks very modern,” Diaz said.

This airport link will provide transportation to millions of residents around the city in a fast and efficient way which demonstrates a considerable amount of improvement for such a congested place like Miami-Dade County.

Jon Shipp, 56, takes the train very often. He doesn’t know much about the airport link but has seen the construction taking place. “It is convenient for people not worrying about traffic or gas or even parking,” Shipp said.

There might be mixed opinions about this new project. People like Luna Rodriguez, 16, and student at New World School of the Arts see it that it could be a bit of a problem. “Carrying a lot of luggage could be annoying but it is convenient for people taking public transportation,” Rodriguez said.

People might go to the train more often as the Miami Intermodal Center opens. “Yes, it probably will encourage more people to take the train,” Diaz said.

“It is a great idea. If its advertised right, it will increase in ridership,” Shipp said.

The opening of the Miami Intermodal Center is scheduled to open around April 2012. It extends 2.4 miles from the Earlington Heights Station. For more information, go to http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/improve_airport.asp

De-stress Yourself!!

Feeling stressed out from work? Do you feel like doing something different from the same boring routine? Yoga classes are being offered at Bayfront Park every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday. This is a great way for people to take advantage of the opportunity to de-stress themselves from their hectic lifestyles.

Jannee Alt, yoga instructor, has been doing this quite a while at Bayfront Park. She was a student and eventually took over the instructor job. She got into a car accident at 19 so she used yoga as part of her healing process.

These classes are held outdoors where it shows a great view of the bay and provides a unique, calm environment away from the city life. “It is lovely, there are lots of people, so you have to project your voice”, Alt said.

People enjoy this experience and it shows a great way of promoting a healthier lifestyle for the rest of the community. “Connect to their heart, relax from their mind”, says Alt. People enjoy this experience and it shows a great way of promoting a healthier lifestyle for the rest of the community, she says.

Javier Alonso, yoga student, finds it quite hard. “It is challenging but in the end, it is relaxing. It makes you push yourself” Alonso said.

Another student, Mark Tnagarone, says, “Yoga changed my life”. He comes from Connecticut and started doing Yoga since October. He lost 25 lbs since then. “It gives me more energy and more flexibility for my arthritis.” Tnagarone said. Its partners are Smart Water, Team Foot Works and the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run.

Participants have to get there early in order to get into these classes. All participants must be at least 18 years old and they have to sign a waiver prior to participating in these activities.
Classes are free to all participants. Also, Bayfront Park provides additional free Self-Defense classes for women on Mondays and Wednesdays. For more information, go to
